Having discussed with Jan on the forum the issue was that another application had written metadata tags incorrectly using the wrong encoding so when read by SongKong not displayed as expected.

Appears to be insecure according to Widows operating system and Bitdefender antivirus, but it seems to work fine, so I guess it'd okay.

OK ... but ...

Does what it should do …. but ...
- installed via Docker, the Container tends to restart without a reason sometimes
- forgets his Licence occasionally
- I miss: Tag files from filename like in Jaikoz
- Discogs Albums often not found or recognized, even when explicit stated
- Sometimes … slow (100 songs and more at a time)
I like the clean look :-)

Hi, if you restart the container and you have not mapped a /songkong folder to a real folder then your license and settings will get lost, but it should not restart itself if it is please post details to support. For next release we have added option to Match To One Album to allow you to force a match to a particular album if SongKong is failing to match to it because doesnt seem a great match for some reason.

Song Kong has been invaluable to clean and standardise the metadata of my 15k+ files which had grown a tail of detritus over the years a a result of ripping, numerous streaming services and Roon Simple interface, pretty self explanatory but good online reference when required. Highly recommended

Mighty tool - hard to operate
Verified Buyer
SongKong
The breadth of set-up choices for each task is quite confusing for the beginner. Even though there is quick support from Paul Taylor, I still find it difficult to get duplicate albums removed, if they are sitting in different folders or in different sections of the Melco (main library vs library for CD rips). Even duplicate songs sitting in the same folder are not being recognized as duplicates with the settings that I have chosen. It may be all me, but I just don‘t seem to get SongKong to di what I want.

Does what it is supposed to do, some functions are complicated to perform, user interface is rather primitive, it is rather slow, it took about 72 hours to fix my collection of 3000 albums.
Response from JThink
Jan 15, 2024
Hi Mike, thanks for the review, that is much longer than usual usually can do about 1000 albums an hour but it is slower if files are stored on a different server if wifi is slow. If you have any ideas about how yo would like the interface improved please post some answers on the forum, always happy to consider customer ideas.

It gets 4 stars from me because feature wise it has no competitors AFAIK (at least not ones that work on Linux). The UI is much improved from the much older version that I upgraded from, though I am not a fan of "subscription-like" model that is now being used (I understand why the dev is doing that but still not a fan). What would make it even better, for me would be opus and itunes like Explicit Song tagging. Anyway, would I continue to pay for it, yes, its the best/only of its kind that works in linux.

It does pretty much what it should. Only improvement I could think of is an interactive mode to see what it does exactly with some selection of albums.

Thanks Boris, regarding interactive mode have you treied out the new Match to One Album task, this lets you select from a list of possible matches and review changes and do further editing before saving the changes.

The app is great, but not as simple as it could be, there could be a standard baseline of function, then the elite can manipulate the settings to suit their needs. From a test perspective, I processed say 100gb of various files, it ruined almost all of the existing structure and placed the various artist in with the artists albums, detached existing complete albums into va folders to a point where nearly all the files were stripped and put into random albums. I patiently used jaikoz to manually process my collection, I can't say after buying songkong w/pro that'll I ever use it, jaikoz is more reliable. The music scene seems a mess, a universal standard of genres for example doesn't even seem to be established between jaikoz and songkong? Processing music files is such a convoluted process compared to tv/movies, it seems between disco and brainz or any other website/forum etc. a case of the more eccentric the better causing dysfunction in the meta world of music. These apps are brilliant in their right but destructive at best not carefully watched. I use them purely for a mass naming tool more than anything else. Im not a scientific meta wiz and Until it becomes cleaner from the initial install by identifying your use of the app with a check list of how you want to process your collection, the stock settings cannot be trusted and diving into the sets after install is daunting. I use media centre master, have done for years, great thing to note is you can backup your profile/s as you use the app. This makes it a shit load easier to manage when you have a reinstall, new pc etc. I've been using the same profile saves for 10+ yrs.. I'd feel safer about using it if shared profile sets from users with similar collections were used, I guess I don't know enough about meta and where it comes from and how is attached to different files to change many settings safely without wasting time having to undo or test everything I do with the app, isn't that what developers do? We all have the same music to a degree but who keeps changing the meta Hahaha anyway my two bobs worth Paul, cheers inexperienced user with money to burn on apps that don't give me confidence to use them to their true potential.

Hi Chris, Would be great if you could run Create Support Files so we can see your report and look into this as not usual behaviour. Worth noting the Fix Songs task does not even rename files, the Rename Files task renames based on the metadata in the files, also note there is an Undo Changes task you can run if you dont like the results.

Was not able to get info from wav music files or mp3 files. seems like it needs the album name to get info. I do not have the album names. Jiakoz would not even start up - some kind of license issue even though I have a license.jai file To get the info I need I will do web lookups - time consuming - but I will get the data
