The best app to get all the metadata on MP3-songs. One star missing because I would love to have an option to change the titles of files to the title of songs. So not ‘TRACK1’ but ‘Here Comes The Sun’. Or am I missing something?
Added fifth star: developer pointed out you CAN rename tracks based on metadata. Great program became brilliant.

Thankyou Peter, actually you can rename files to metadata using Action:File and Folder Correct:Correct Filenames from Metadata, and Preferences:File and Folder Correct:Rename Filename from Metadata lets you specify the metadata that you want to use (such as Title)

It could be a bit simpler in determining the series of reults to choose freely.
It would also be nice to have the information from Sound Dog integrated, but this one will not be renamed.
Thanks.

It works pretty magically but usually crashes mid process.

It should not crash, if you please run Help:Create Support Files I can look into it. On the positive side folders are saved as they are processed so if you rerun songKong over the same folder it should skip over all the songs already matched.

SongKong worked well when other apps I tried failed to identify songs. I particularly like the reports at the end of each action (fix, find duplicates, etc). The "errors" section lets me know if I've got corrupt files in my library so I can try to fix them or remove them altogether -- very helpful.

How the hell was I living without it all this time! This is really great and very stable software for my dual boot Mac and Windows notebook. I The only two more wishes I have so far is for for the song matching to have a higher percentage and for a synology disk station plug in.

Identified and mostly correctly tagged a lot of stuff that's been sitting in my library for up to ten years only previously known as track##!

Recently bought SongKong after using Jaikoz for many years. I had a loarge batch of mp3 files from a wide range of sources e.g. ones I had ripped from my own CD collection or bought from online services. SongKong was able to correct much of the metadata and consistently applied quality artwork to the files which has vastly improved the usability of my music collection. I have used it mainly on my album collection so far. I'm going to try it next on a load of Various Artists to see how it copes with that.

The only thing it seems to get wrong for some files is the original release date which sometimes makes it tricky to find an album based on when it came out.

It does a good job of helping sort out a messy music collection, and I would recommend it to a friend.

The databases have info on albums and singles, if you have no existing metadata that points your songs towards singles then it will more likely match towards albums, in that case the best thing you can do is use Jaikoz Correct SubFolder from Metadata task so each single is in own folder then retry, and then Jaikoz will be more likely to match to a single.

Hi , very good software, a lot of features! Only a good and clear manual for beginners or tutorials are missing ... finding the exact info like for example : rename a file with masks is an extremely job .. for a newbie. But overall it’s a very good package!

Very good but did get some of the artwork wrong, - needs improving.
This would be top notch software if it included an accuracy checker.
I use dbPoweramp for my cd rips and then they have a program called 'Perfect tunes' which checks the accuracy of your music files using the 'Accurate rip' database.

Hi Roy, accurate rip is only useful for checking cd rips of complete cds, and is designed for checking the quality of the rip of the actual music rather than the quality of the metadata. SongKogn can match Vinyl rip, downloads, partial cds ectera and uses a number of checks to ensure that matching is of a high quality/

Hi there,

I’ve used jaikoz to clean up my song collection. It did the bulk of them well, but I am running into oddball exceptions where it completely changes the metadata to an unrelated song by an unrelated artist. I realize this may be the underlying music databases, but from where I sit the result is the same.

There is one use case I am surprised hasn’t come up before, and would be popular and unique if you added it. I like to listen to music by decades, and create playlists based on ranges of years, like’80s, ‘90s, etc. However, there’s no way to tie a song to the original release and its release date. To me - and I think a lot of people - a recording from the ‘70s that was rereleased in a 2005 compilation is actaully a ‘70s song. I have tried all the options using the original release date and so on. I am laboriously manually retagging the year for this piurpose. It will take weeks of work. It would be a great feature to find the first recording of a given song by a given artist and assign that date, optionally. I think a lot of people would like to listen to music by timeframe, and no other product does this yet.

Hi Michael, Jaikoz uses existing metadata of the song, metadata of other songs in the same grouping/album and acoustic analysis to find a match. Occasionally two completely different songs can generate the same fingerprint but this is usually not a problem due to the other checks, but I suspect you are trying to match a single song with no existing metadata in this case, if you can email me the value of acoustid field I can check this for you. Jaikoz does already store the original release date for songs in the originalreleasedate field but you can make Jaikoz use this for the year field instead by using the Preferences:MusicBrainz:Format:Put Original Year Into Year option. If you have already tried this and it didnt seem to work it maybe because you had already autocorrected your songs and so they were ignored if you reran AutoCorrect Metadata from MusicBrainz, instead try running Update Metadata from MusicBrainz, or it may just have failed for a particular album Jaikoz is unlikely to find original release date for 100% of your releases.
